Hey, y'all!
Okay, so I've been looking for multicolor round coasters, and I've hit a dead end. All of the ones I find are either too spendy or not quite right as far as the colors go.
The solution? Make my own.
I've had a lot of fun making these little guys in a ton of different colors, and I have ideas for rugs, blankets and other things using them as motifs...stay tuned for more on that.
These were all made using super-bulky yarn (Lion Brand Hometown USA, for the most part) and an aluminum N hook. I'll be posting a pattern before too long, which I'm really excited about. There are so many things scribbled on napkins and note pads around here, and I'm starting to take some time to compile them into something that's legible to people who aren't already inside of my head. ;)
'Til next time,
OCB

Lancaster Quilt from Crochet Today
Hey, y'all!
Crochet Today! is the one print subscription I receive, and it's more than just a subscription for me...it's an addiction. Remember how exciting it was to get mail when you were a kid? I literally do a happy dance every time this magazine shows up in my mailbox.
That being said, I tend to make a lot of projects out of this particular periodical. Today's project is the Lancaster Quilt throw blanket by Katherine Eng, which was featured in the November/December 2011 issue of the magazine.
Believe it or not, I followed the pattern exactly on this one. The only changes I made were the colors. The finished throw measures roughly 48" square and makes a great lap blanket.
We've just redecorated our living room, and I wanted to make some throws and other small pieces to help tie in some of the colors we've kept from the old scheme. The variegated Red Heart Super Saver yarn in "Autumn" happened to have all of the colors I wanted, and I love the way it turned out.
Oh, and for those of you who aren't already acquainted with Butterscotch, he's one of my daughter's best friends. A beloved uncle gave Butterscotch to The Princess for Christmas this past December, and he has quickly become an integral part of the family. The only challenge is getting him to give up my favorite chair so I can crochet comfortably. ;)

Short-sleeved Summer Sweater
Hey, y'all!
Well, I've officially broken my New Year's resolution to post here once a week. I was out of town for work all of last week, and I left the memory card with all of my pictures at home. I'll try to be better, I swear!
As my first attempt to make it up to you, I'd like to share my recently completed short-sleeved summer sweater:
I really love how the variegated yarn patterned itself across the piece. What do you think?

Bobbles and Cables Bag
Hey, y'all!
Holy poop on toast...Thanksgiving is tomorrow! I can't believe how the time is flying.
Now, I'm assuming you are familiar with my purse obsession, especially given that about 1/2 of what I've posted on here is purses. What you may not know is that I love big bags in funky colors. Oranges, turquoises, hot pinks...for me, no color is taboo when it comes to purses.
Browsing through the local shops earlier this fall, I fell in love with quite a few mustard-colored leather bags. You know, the ones that feel like butter and cost as much as a car? Yeah. Those.
Since I can't exactly justify spending a mortgage payment or two on a bag, I thought I'd raid the ol' stash and buy some new handles.
Whaddaya think? I may be in love.
Yarn: Caron no-dye-lot one-pound skeins in off-white and mustard yellow (100% acrylic)
Hook: Aluminum M
Handles: Nylon with braided detail from Jo-Ann
Lining: Modified standard pillowcase. Oh, yes. I did.
Total Project Cost (if I bought everything full-price and new): about $25-30 plus time

This project also helped me to begin the process of overcoming my fear
of sewing. I've never lined my bags in the past, but I think that's
going to change...and soon...based on how well this one turned out.
Whaddaya think? I may be in love.

Work in Progress: Lacy Checkered Afghan
Hey, y'all!
Long time, no see. This has been a busy summer at our little yellow house, and I realize I've been neglecting you. Not to worry...you're not alone. I just sat down and replied to a couple of emails that were over a month old.
I guess it's time to catch up, eh?
Even though summer isn't always the most comfortable time to crochet, I've completed a few things since I last posted, and I have more in progress. I'll post the completed projects after they've been given to their new owners - wouldn't want to ruin any surprises! - but in the meantime, here's a sneak-peek at a current work in progress:
These grey and purple motifs are almost 12" square, and I'll be joining 25 of them together to make a checkerboard afghan. I'm using bulky acrylic yarn that I got through a trade, and I think the combo of the bulky yarn and the lacy motif will make this blankie quite interesting. I'm about halfway to the finish line on this one...stay tuned for more pics of the completed project!
See you soon,

Olivia's Baby Gifts
One of my good pals at work is about to become a grandmother. She recently commissioned my services to make an oversized baby blanket, and the shower was this past weekend.
When I realized the amount of yarn I had left over after the blanket was done, I decided to contribute a couple of gifts of my own as well.
I'm hoping to see a picture or two of the little one with her new loot when she sees fit to join us. With her family's permission, of course, I'll try to post at least one here for all to see.

The blanket measures 48" by 48" and the dress is sized or a newborn baby girl.
Here's a close-up of the stitch pattern on the blankie and the dress.
I love working with this stitch, and I think I'll be making something for myself using it soon. The fabric is so soft and cozy.

Couch Arm Remote Holder
If your house is anything like mine, your coffee table is covered in remote controls. I've seen mass-produced canvas pouches for storing them over a couch arm, and I thought I'd give it a whirl.
There are a couple of major bonuses to this particular project:
First, I got to use up some of my leftover bits of yarn from previous projects.
And second, perhaps by separating the remotes into their individual pouches, they'll finally stop multiplying. :)

Unfortunately, the color just doesn't want to come across properly here. For the blues, think jeans. And the red is more barn than fire engine in real life.

Fatty Handbag: Cottage
It's been a while since I posted a new Fatty bag. I know y'all are probably sick of lookin' at my purses, but that's the beauty of being the administrator of the blog...I get to pick what you see and when you see it! ;)
This is one of my favorite color combos thus far:
The entire bag has been lovingly constructed by hand using 100% cotton yarn with bamboo handles. The finished product measures approximately 7" high (not including handles) by 11" wide by 6" deep.

Super-Fat #21: Buttercream
I've done this color combo before, but this one's a tad different. Over time, I've realized I really prefer the trim at the top (where the handles are attached) to be solid. What do you think?
This bag measures approximately 16" wide by 9" tall and 9" deep, and is lovingly handmade using cotton yarn and rattan handles. As with all of my bags, the flower clip is removable/interchangeable.
BUY IT ON ETSY!
